MY STORY
Hi there, Shay here! I am a business coach, advocate and mentor for IAM Worldwide.
Let me share you my personal story.
I am an Operations Manager for an Oil and Gas company in the UAE, and also advocating the IAM Worldwide business part-time. I have been working as an OFW for almost 6 years now, and let me tell you, earning enough money but not being with my family is an everyday challenge.
Why I started this business?
I am a Business Management graduate and I always wanted to start a business and become massively successful to improve my life and the life of my family. I realized early in life that I have big dreams, but not a lot of money so I did what I was advised by my elders: “Study, Get a Job and Work Hard.” As early as 19 years old, I was an Iskolar ng Bayan in day and breaking my back as a call-center agent by night. I even sold Real Estate, Insurance and stock investment on the side until I had the opportunity to work abroad.
After a decade working nonstop, I began to realized it wasn’t enough to achieve all my finances goals. Traditionally, we are programmed to believe that we have to study hard, get a good paying job and work nonstop to earn big and save money. Being someone who has “done everything by the book” I can tell you, this no longer the current reality. It isn’t enough to just graduate from a premier university, and get a high position with a high wage.
Today, salaries are just means to pay the bills. Sadly for 9 out of 10 Filipinos salaries are barely enough to pay for their essential expenses like food, tuition and utility bills. So there’s almost no savings or extra funds for emergencies or insurances. That’s why when a Global Crisis like COVID hit, even “well-off” professionals like myself took a huge blow financially.
